David married Janet Rose Hamilton in 1972 in Center City, Texas. They have three children who live in Jacksonville, New Orleans, and Houston, and seven grandchildren.


He graduated from Baylor in 1975 and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1981. During his seminary days he was a general assignments reporter for the City Desk of the Times-Picayune. He earned a Ph.D. at Baylor University in Ethics and Church-State Studies in 1989.


David is founder and president of the Baptist Crossroads Project that built 91 homes in the Upper Ninth Ward in a partnership with Habitat for Humanity and Baptist Community Ministries. Crossroads NOLA is their new name, and they are now focused on addressing the needs of foster children in the New Orleans region and across Louisiana.


David is a founding member of the board of New Orleans Baptist Ministries which operated four North American Mission Board ministries in New Orleans. He is a trustee of Gateway Seminary in the Los Angeles area.


David served on the Roundtable of NOLA.com/The Times Picayune, a community advisory board, ande was a member of the New Orleans Police Chief Clergy Council until his retirement.


He has published four books: “First Principles: Basics of Biblical Faith,” “You Excel Them All,” “Your Pain Is Changing You,” and “The Care Effect: Unleashing the Power of Compassion.”


Janet and David now live in Goldthwaite, Texas.
